I discovered the next level of sake when my husband and I went to a Japanese restaurant back in 1998 with one of our dearest friends, Phyllis. She is a 1st generation Japanese American that grew up in a traditional Japanese home and also attended school in Japan as a young adult. Instead of us ordering the typical hot sake she introduced us to cold sake. From the first sip, I was hooked and wanted to learn more about this beautiful beverage. Every time a new sake was being poured at the sushi bar or being sold at the local Asian market, I would make sure to buy and taste it. As my curiosity grew and my passion to understand sake more, I decided to become a certified Sake professional. The person who personally educated me was no other than John Gauntner aka the Sake Guy. My mission is to help sake newbies in the United States who have just discovered sake as I did over 20 years ago. I want to simplify sake to make it more approachable to you, showing you how wonderful it is. It’s a wonderful brewed beverage that is pure and unique more than any other adult beverage in the world.
