JUNMAI DAIGINJO SAKE PLATINUM

I really don’t know what’s going on with Sake brewery obsession within the United States, particularly from the “sunshine state” California. Sake is of Japanese origin, but surprisingly, there are now over twenty sake breweries that are slowly invading the California Coastline since the ’70s. Today,  They continue to be spreading like wildfires in this state and beyond.

The Sake production in the US is California, the spiritual home of its most often identified Sake monster battles, Takara VS. Ozeki. However, I’m going to bring  Hawaii into this war, because they did entertain the production for the sake during the 1900s of pre-war Japanese immigrants. It was creatively known as  Honolulu Sake Brewery. For more than 50 years, first-generation Japanese immigrants associated with the brewery struggled after World War II to survive. GEE PEARL HARBOR ANYONE???? The art of Sake production was coached by late brewmaster Takao Nihei, a Tokyo native. For the spartans Ozeki and Takara, Takao Nihei became the “PAPA” of sake brewing in America in the ’70s.

This Sake is signed sealed and delivered to you via Hollister California, where they wet your palate with over thirty plus products. They want you to get the full experience. Ozeki not only makes Sake but sake jello shots; and if you happen to need to cleanse your body after their “experience”, they sell Sake Soaps too! What a generous gentrified company.

Who doesn’t want a Sake that’s labeled “Platinum”? This sake is brought to you by what Ozeki claims to be the oldest Sake breweries in the United States of America. That’s a pretty bold claim. I’m not about to do a WW smackdown on who officially can slam dunk that fact, but I can give you an honest review on it.

For one it’s NOT Platinum, whatever that means. It’s easy-going and not intimidating, like the War of The Gargantuas. The color is bright and stark. The nose is tropical Hawaiian flowers, with bruised coconut fruit. On the palate, it’s very fruity, like a fruit cocktail from the war. And just like any war, you just want it to end!… Thank you, Ozeki for selling yourself out.
